This family is so FULL OF FUN!! Yes, we will absolutely do your photo session in your home, your back yard, your car and “The Cantina”! A perfect backdrop for their session. I photographed their daughter’s bat mitzvah a couple years ago, and now I will be photographing their son’s bar mitzvah next month. I can’t wait ~ I know it will be full of fun!
Enjoy! m
Oh, this crazy, beach weather!!! I’m reflecting on this photo session as I am putting together some sort of description for this lovely family’s session. It started last year, when James contacted me to buy a photo session for his wife for Christmas. It was to be a surprise for her ~ I remember calling him to arrange the details, and realizing through his lack of responses to my questions that she was probably in the room with him. It was a bit of an “ahhhhh” moment, as I quickly said, “call me later!”. At some point after she received her gift, she and I spoke, and I’ll tell you…she was so appreciative of this gift, and we spoke about every detail of what her shoot would be like. As I do with every client, we spoke about location and wardrobe ideas, the best times for photo sessions, and how to make it easy for their 1 year old daughter. We decided on a date, with the location and wardrobe all worked out.
Fast forward to the day of their session, and it’s a bit chilly outside. Not really “chilly”, but COLD. AND WiNDY!! Having dealt with beach weather before, I knew the likelihood of the wind dying down as the sun set was pretty high, so we met at our spot to do the session. As I do with quite a few of my sessions, I started a block east of the beach, grabbing spots on benches, doorways, and mural walls to grab some shots. I do this for a few reasons…to add variety to their photo gallery, to get my family/kids/etc. comfortable with me, and to let the sun go down a bit so we can be on the beach at the perfect time. As we were doing this, the wind was pretty crazy, and I was starting to realize that it wasn’t going to die down. When we got down to the sand, I’m looking at this sweet, little 1 year old, and I said, let’s postpone the rest of the session until another day….her little nose was a tad red and cold! I thought, “sometimes, you just gotta call it!” So we did.
This crazy beach weather interrupted our next 3 schedule sessions with rain, more wind, super overcast dark skies, and then MORE rain and wind. But finally, the clouds in the sky parted ways, and allowed us to “finish” our session. TOTALLY worth the wait…check out the yummy sunlight on the last few photos of this post!
This family was lovely and SO kind. I loved getting to know them throughout this process. I wanted their photo session to be perfect, and we just had to be patient to get what we wanted.
Enjoy these! m
A lovely service and party for this young man! What is better than to be able to take off the suit and wear sports attire for the party? The service was held at Congregation Tikvat Jacob in Manhattan Beach. The epic party with the basketball theme was at the Manhattan Country Club. We Plan the Party did an outstanding job coordinating and executing this event.
Sometimes the universe is on your side, and this evening proved that. We got going on this shoot a bit late due to a very exciting kid soccer game that went into OT. I was waiting for them at the beach, with a dead cell phone battery, and a meeting place that was a little tricky to find. As the sun was dipping further into the horizon, I thought, well, we will have to reschedule. Just then, they walked up, the scattered clouds parted ways, and the sun gave me the gift of another 15 minutes. Seriously, this was the best sunset I’ve seen in a very long time. The pink sky was made just for us, and it was so beautiful!
I love taking pictures of people…of personalities, of love, of relationships, of connections, of giggles and of real life. Sometimes beauty takes on a bit of messiness, but in the end, you will be able to see the real and authentic love that you and your people have for one another. And that…is what matters.
Let’s make this easy – Sessions are One Price, ALL INCLUSIVE and stress free.
