Best Colors to Wear for Fall Family Portraits

One of the first questions I get from my clients is, “what are the best colors to wear for fall family portraits?” Or, “what should we wear for our fall photo session?”

I can help! I always suggest starting with the children’s clothing selections…don’t limit yourself to solid colors, feel free to go for patterns, plaids and multiple colors when choosing for your kids. When picking out outfits for the adults, pick one color from the kid’s outfits, and stick with that. You can pair your “color” top with jeans, pants or a long skirt. Choose something you feel gorgeous in, mix up the colors…perhaps you wear one of the colors of your daughter’s dress for your top, and wear denim on the bottom. Don’t forget about dad…he may go with a neutral color, and his favorite jeans, too. Accessories are the other element to a fun shoot…hats, lightweight scarves, fun tights, boots, sparkly shoes or a headband add detail to every picture. Pick clothing that is comfortable and that you can move around in. My photo shoots are filled with moving ~ walking, sitting on the ground and interacting with your family. I LOVE color! Don’t be afraid to go bold, bright, or choose stripes or plaids for one or two of your outfits. I do advise to stay away from screen print tee shirts or large logos.

Hermosa Beach Pier family photographer

I absolutely love photo sessions on the beach; the beautiful light, the open space, the pier backdrops…you get it! This family has done all of their sessions for the last 4 years right here in Hermosa Beach at our beautiful Hermosa Beach Pier. I have been a photographer in the South Bay area of Los Angeles for 10 years, and I wonder how many sessions I have had with this backdrop, maybe a couple hundred, at least! Some of my favorites: This one that included the extended family, and then the day the wind was so crazy, we had to postpone the 2nd half of the session, and one of my favorites with a beautiful pink sunset. I love being a Hermosa Beach Pier family photographer. And I love taking photos at the Hermosa Beach Pier.

If you approach your photo session with the idea that we are going to hang out and have fun, and not worry too much and posing and smiling, you will be so happy! I will be in charge of getting your kids to do what I would like them to do – you can relax and let me be in charge. I am not looking for perfect behavior – I’m looking for the relationships, and a little bit of silliness! This is what makes beautiful and authentic photos. The other important thing to remember is that family photo sessions don’t have to be scheduled for holidays… you can book your family photo session anytime during the year! You can book during the spring and take advantage of the beautiful flower blooms – the rains in the winter usually bring a lot of green and freshness to our area. The summer is another great time, when the sunset happens later in the day. Your wardrobe can reflect the easy going time of summer, too. We can walk up and down the beach and run in and out of the waves. There really isn’t a bad time to take photos, that is for certain.

Ethan’s Space Themed Bar Mitzvah . Crowne Plaza, Redondo Beach

Ethan’s Bar Mitzvah was out of this world, literally! Well, maybe not literally, but he did have the most epic space themed party to celebrate. I had the honor of photographing his older sister’s bat mitzvah 2 years ago, so being a part of Ethan’s was extra special.

It’s here, It’s Real, IT’S FALL!

Can you believe it? Break out the pumpkin spice lattes, put those gourds on your front porch, fire up the soccer games, and plan those cute Halloween costumes….IT’s FALL!!! That also means that it is time to get your holiday photo session on the calendar. My schedule is ready for ya ~ contact me here.

It’s been a busy year for me so far… full of family sessions, maternity sessions and even some bar/bat mitzvahs. I am realizing this holiday season will be my 8th year in business! Some of you have been with me since the beginning, and I couldn’t be more thankful. I look forward to seeing all of my repeat clients, and meeting new ones, of course! I am just so thankful.
