Oh, this crazy, beach weather!!! I’m reflecting on this photo session as I am putting together some sort of description for this lovely family’s session. It started last year, when James contacted me to buy a photo session for his wife for Christmas. It was to be a surprise for her ~ I remember calling him to arrange the details, and realizing through his lack of responses to my questions that she was probably in the room with him. It was a bit of an “ahhhhh” moment, as I quickly said, “call me later!”. At some point after she received her gift, she and I spoke, and I’ll tell you…she was so appreciative of this gift, and we spoke about every detail of what her shoot would be like. As I do with every client, we spoke about location and wardrobe ideas, the best times for photo sessions, and how to make it easy for their 1 year old daughter. We decided on a date, with the location and wardrobe all worked out.
Fast forward to the day of their session, and it’s a bit chilly outside. Not really “chilly”, but COLD. AND WiNDY!! Having dealt with beach weather before, I knew the likelihood of the wind dying down as the sun set was pretty high, so we met at our spot to do the session. As I do with quite a few of my sessions, I started a block east of the beach, grabbing spots on benches, doorways, and mural walls to grab some shots. I do this for a few reasons…to add variety to their photo gallery, to get my family/kids/etc. comfortable with me, and to let the sun go down a bit so we can be on the beach at the perfect time. As we were doing this, the wind was pretty crazy, and I was starting to realize that it wasn’t going to die down. When we got down to the sand, I’m looking at this sweet, little 1 year old, and I said, let’s postpone the rest of the session until another day….her little nose was a tad red and cold! I thought, “sometimes, you just gotta call it!” So we did.
This crazy beach weather interrupted our next 3 schedule sessions with rain, more wind, super overcast dark skies, and then MORE rain and wind. But finally, the clouds in the sky parted ways, and allowed us to “finish” our session. TOTALLY worth the wait…check out the yummy sunlight on the last few photos of this post!
This family was lovely and SO kind. I loved getting to know them throughout this process. I wanted their photo session to be perfect, and we just had to be patient to get what we wanted.
Enjoy these! m
